HART to Analog converter configuration

n some cases, we may need to monitor the hart parameter from the HART-enabled instrument such as transmitters and control valve. In this article, I would like to show how to configure Tri-Loop™ HART-to-Analog Signal Converter which is configured as an instrument that monitors control valve travel.
This configuration is done on the workbench (workshop).
In my case, I used the following equipment:
  1. Tri-Loop™ HART-to-Analog Signal Converter
  2. FIELDVUE DVC6010 positioner
  3. Fluke 787 processmeter
  4. Handheld 375 HART communicator
  5. Jofra ASC300 4-20mA Signal source
  6. 24VDC Power Supply
  7. 250/270W resistor
  8. Wires
  9. Screw drivers
Connect all equipment as shown in the figure 1.
After all instruments are interconnected as figure 1. perform the following steps:
HART TRI-LOOP CONFIGURATION
Online with HART Tri-Loop by HART Comm.
Configure Tri-Loop’s parameters as shown at the following menu from HART COMM.
• Basic Setup
• Configure Channels
• Configure CH1
• Burst Variable QV
• Units %
• LRV 0
• URV 100
• CH1 Enabled YES
Configure Tri-Loop address with “1”
• Device Setup
• Detailed Setup
• HART Output
• Poll Address 1
Perform loop test of CH1 with the following menu from HART Comm.
• Device Setup
• Detailed Setup
• Output Condition
• Loop Test
DVC6010 CONFIGURATION
Online with dvc6010 by HART Comm.
Put DVC6010 into “OUT OF SERVICE” mode
• Setup & Config.
• Detailed Setup
• Instrument Mode
• Out of Service
Enable BURST mode and other parameters
• Setup & Config.
• Detailed Setup
• Burst Mode
• Burst Enabled
• Enable
• Burst Command
• HART Univ. Cmd. 3
• Select Cmd. 3 Press.
• Output A
Change DVC device address to “2” (optional)
Enable BURST mode and other parameters
• Setup & Config.
• Detailed Setup
• General
• Polling Address: 2
Put DVC6010 into “IN SERVICE”
• Setup & Config.
• Detailed Setup
• Instrument Mode
• In Service
FUNCTION TEST
After all parameter both TRI-LOOP and DVC6010 has been properly set, perform function test by
  1. Online with DVC6010 by HART comm
  2. Monitor “travel” percentage parameter at the HART comm..
  3. Move DVC6010 travel sensor
  4. Observe mili ampere output from channel 1 at the mili ampere meter.
  5. The percentage of 4-20mA output from TRI-LOOP should be equal to travel position shown in the HART COMM.
Now you can bring your instrument for installation.
Hope this help, or leave it just a reading material…
